Sky has unveiled a first look teaser for ‘Possession,’ a five-part limited event series that was previously titled ‘Inheritance,’ offering a moody, atmospheric glimpse into a story where legal drama collides with ancestral hauntings and buried colonial history.
Created and written by Karla Crome (Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen) and directed by Storm Saulter (Better Mus’ Come, Sprinter), the series stretches across Bristol and Jamaica, weaving a supernatural thriller that pulses with mystery, inheritance battles, and the ghosts of the past refusing to stay silent.
At its centre is Claudia, played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw, an ambitious young bi-racial lawyer whose professional certainty begins to fracture when a case pulls her into deeply personal territory. She travels to Jamaica to challenge an inheritance claim brought by Cudjoe East, played by Sheldon Shepherd, against Oliver Connaught, portrayed by Jonny Lee Miller, a wealthy aristocrat whose family legacy carries more than just legal weight.
What begins as a dispute over land and lineage quickly mutates into something far more unsettling. Claudia discovers the estate at the heart of the case is Hope Hill, the former Connaught plantation that has been haunting her nightmares long before she ever set foot on the island. As she and Oliver dig deeper into the property’s history, they uncover a chilling thread connecting the plantation’s brutal colonial past to injustices that still echo through the present day.
The ensemble expands the series’ world further, with Bel Powley appearing as Charlotte, alongside Nadean Rawlins as Mercy, Sean Gilder as Tom McKenzie, Olunike Adeliyi as Patsy Dawkins, Richard Dillane as Eugene Desfrienes, Diveen Henry as Flora, Jack Bandeira as Kenneth Connaught, Shantol Jackson as Sarah, Jeff Crossley as Angelo, and Safina Simpson as Betina.
Produced by Snowed-In in association with Sky Studios, the series is based on an original story by Jefferson Bannis. It is created and written by Karla Crome and directed by Storm Saulter.
