We are only a few days away from welcoming a new year and with it sees the releases of the critically-acclaimed new drama/fantasy A Monster Calls, directed by J.A. Bayona (The Impossible).

We had the pleasure of speaking to the screenwriter of the film Patrick Ness, who wrote the book in which the film is based. During our chat, we spoke to the writer about adapting his own work for the screen, the influence of Bayona on the story and why Liam Neeson was perfect for the role of The Monster…

A Monster Calls

And if speaking to Patrick wasn’t enough, we had the pleasure of talking to the film’s director J.A. Bayona (which you can watch here) and Liam Neeson and Lewis MacDougall, the video of which you can view right here.

It’s fair to say that we are big fans of the film here at HeyUGuys – we fell in love with the film in Toronto at this year’s International Film Festival and have been raving about it ever since. It’s a wonderful movie that tells the story of Conor, a young boy dealing with his mother’s battle with cancer and his struggles to cope with such a sad situation. Anchored by a beautiful performance by MacDougall, who is a true star-in-the-making, the film also features exceptions performances from Felicity Jones (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) as Conor’s mother , Sigourney Weaver (Aliens) as his grandmother and the aforementioned Neeson as The Monster, who performed on set with MacDougall and is brought to life via the magic of motion capture.

You can read our glowing 5* review of the film here and we urge you to seek the film out when it arrives as it will be one of the best films you see in fledgling new year.

A Monster Calls opens in the UK on January 1st, 2017.
