Bleecker Street has released the first trailer for the remake of 1973’s Papillon starring Charlie Hunnam and Bohemian Rhapsody’s Rami Malek.

Based on a true story of a French convict Henri Charrière (Charlie Hunnam), nicknamed “Papillon”, who was imprisoned in 1933 and escaped in 1941 with the help of another convict, counterfeiter Louis Dega (Rami Malek). The film is directed by Michael Noer, the film also stars Roland Møller as Celier, Tommy Flanagan as Masked Breton, Eve Hewson as Nenette and Michael Socha as Julot.

Papillon Official Synopsis

Based on the international best-selling autobiographic books “Papillon” and “Banco”, the film follows the epic story of Henri “Papillon” Charrière (Charlie Hunnam), a safecracker from the Parisian underworld who is framed for murder and condemned to life in the notorious penal colony on Devil’s Island. Determined to regain his freedom, Papillon forms an unlikely alliance with a convicted counterfeiter Louis Dega (Rami Malek), who in exchange for protection, agrees to finance Papillon’s escape.
