Stanley-Weber-and-Karen-Gillan-in-Not-Another-Happy-EndingBest known for her role as Amy Pond in Doctor Who, Karen Gillan makes her feature leading debut this year with the anticipated Not Another Happy Ending, which makes its world premiere at the end of the month at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

With the film about to debut for the world, we’ve got the first trailer to share. And it promises that Richard Curtis’ About Time won’t be the only stellar new British romantic-comedy to fall in love with this year.

Karen Gillan stars as Jane, a young Glasgow writer whose first novel is a success, thanks in part to the editing of her sympathetic but business-minded publisher, Tom (Stanley Weber). Reconciled with her estranged father (Gary Lewis) and embarked on a new relationship with a handsome and self-absorbed writer (Henry Ian Cusick), Jane comes down with a severe case of writer’s block while struggling with her second novel. Tom believes that this is because she is too happy, so he resorts to drastic measures to get her unblocked.

Gillan stars opposite Stanley Weber as her publisher, Tom. And the two are joined by a terrific ensemble, led by Henry Ian Cusick, Iain de Caestecker, Freya Mavor, Amy Manson, Gary Lewis, and Kate Dickie.

John McKay (Life on Mars) is behind the camera, directing from a script penned by David Solomons.

Gillan has recently been cast in one of the biggest blockbusters currently being developed, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and it’s great to see her getting the recognition she deserves since the conclusion of her arc in Doctor Who. It goes without saying that she’s definitely one to watch in the years to come, and both Guardians and Not Another Happy Ending are a big part of that.

Not Another Happy Ending will be making its world premiere on June 30th as the Closing Night Film at EIFF. No word yet on a theatrical release date for either side of the Atlantic, but we’re hoping it won’t be long before it hits our cinemas. Here’s the first trailer to give you a taste.

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.
