Only last week it was announced that Nicholas Hoult, Miles Teller and Glen Powell were in the running for the role of Goose’s son in Top Gun: Maverick. News just in today confirms that Miles Teller has beaten his opponents to land the role.

The sought-after role will see Teller starring alongside Tom Cruise who returns to reprise his role of Maverick. The producers of the film had been carrying out vigorous testing for the role. The likes of Dylan O’Brien and Austin Butler had previously tested for the role but the shortlist was whittled down to Teller, Hoult and Powell.

Joseph Kosinski, who reunites with Cruise after working together on in sci-fi thriller Oblivion, is directing the movie. Val Kilmer will also reprise his original role as Maverick’s rival pilot Iceman. Kenny Loggins, the man behind the film’s original theme Danger Zone, is in talks to update the song for the new project.

The follow up to Tony Scott’s 1986 action outing will see Cruise return as Maverick, who has never lost that loving feeling for his need for speed, is set to return as a flight instructor to a whole host of young Geese, Icemen and Mavericks wanting to follow in his almighty flight footsteps. Iceman, in the original, was a very worthy rival of Maverick’s with his death-defying stunts through the air. No further plot details have as yet unsurfaced.

Teller was last seen in Only the Brave and played the role of Peter in the Divergent series of films. Powell was last seen in The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and can currently be seen in Netflix Set It Up.
