Hold on to your helmets – Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick is heading into the danger zone with three top-notch actors being courted for a major role in the sequel.

Nicholas Hoult, Miles Teller and Glen Powell are all on the hot list as a potential to take on the role of the adult son of Maverick’s swingman, Goose. The sought after role would see one of the men starring alongside Cruise who returns to reprise his role of Maverick.

In the original 80’s movie directed by Tony Scott, Goose, played by Anthony Edwards, unfortunately, didn’t survive to see the end of the film. He was killed in a tragic accident in which Maverick ended up blaming himself.

The producers on the film have been carrying out vigorous testing for the role. The likes of Dylan O’Brien and Austin Butler had previously tested for the role but the shortlist has now been whittled down to these three actors.

Previously, we reported that Val Kilmer is also set to return to the follow-up as Iceman and that Kenny Loggins, the man behind the film’s original theme Danger Zone, is in talks to update the song for the new project.

Hoult is very much a part of the X-Men universe, playing the role as Beast. He will be next seen in the role in X-Men: Dark Phoenix. He also stars as Nikola Tesla in The Current War and will play the role of J.R.R. Tolkien in Dome Karukoski’s Tolkien.

Teller was last seen in Only the Brave and played the role of Peter in the Divergent series of films. Powell was last seen in The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and can currently be seen in Netflix Set It Up.
