Miles Morales, born of the Ultimate Marvel universe, is set to be Sony’s next webslinger of choice. Morales donned the Spider-Man suit back in 2011 and has since been a saving grace of the Ultimate universe. The comic series Spider-Men generated a positive response from audiences and critics alike. Morales’ Spider-Man shifted to the main Marvel Universe (Earth-616) during the Secret Wars series (2015), and has resided there ever since.

The final tweet, for now, unveiled the directorial team behind this venture: Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey (Rise of the Guardians). This will be Perischetti’s first time in the director’s chair, but both have a strong animation background that spans over twenty years. Persichetti has been involed in Disney classics including Mulan (1998) and was the story artist for Shrek 2 (2004).
Donald Glover was rumoured to be playing a version of Spider-Man before Andrew Garfield landed the Amazing Spider-Man role. Once thought to be a contender for, the then rumoured, Miles Morales, he has joined Spider-Man: Homecoming whose character is, as yet, unknown. The mill is once again open to rumours, as to the actor who will become the voice of Miles Morales.
With a release date in place and solid set-up, over the next two years we will see how this particular web will weave.
