Only yesterday we reported a Joker origin film was in the works with Todd Phillips at the helm and Martin Scorsese due to produce. Now it transpires that a Joker and Harley Quinn offering is on the cards with Jared Leto and Margot Robbie reprising their roles.

Filmmakers Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, the duo who penned and directed Crazy, Stupid, Love which saw Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling first pair up on screen, are said to be in the final stages of negotiations to write and direct the untitled project.

The film is described as a “criminal love story,” according to one source, featuring the two lunatic killers who are cornerstones in the Batman mythos. One insider offered this: “an insane and twisted love story. When Harry Met Sally on Benzedrine.”

Suicide Squad

Warner Bros are looking to schedule in this new spin-off after the sequel to Suicide Squad which has now been fast-tracked by the studio as their venture into the DCEU shared universe rapidly expands. Due to the financial success of the first film, Warner are looking to capitalise on its popularity but as yet no director has been locked in to take the helm.

Actor turned director Mel Gibson, who recently made an impressive return behind the camera in the gritty and compelling Hacksaw Ridge, has previously been reported to have been in talks to take the helm on the sequel but no official word has come out of the Warner camp so far. The King Arthur: Legend of the Sword director, Guy Ritchie has also made a public pitch mentioning he would be interested in taking the helm on the movie as well.
