They’re both at the top of their game. He’s won three Oscars for his work on Titanic, including Best Director, and his name is synonymous with pushing the boundaries of technology, especially 3D. She’s scooped two Oscars for her songs in No Time To Die and Barbie and became a global sensation in her early teens. And now the talents of James Cameron and Billie Eilish have come together to bring cinema audiences what can best be described as “the ultimate seat in the house.”
The pair co-direct Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard And Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D), a unique record of the Manchester leg of her sell-out world tour, which uses immersive 3D to capture her performance in front of thousands of adoring fans. It also takes the audience behind the scenes and allows them to eavesdrop on her conversations with Cameron, where she reflects on her relationship with her fans and talks about how she and the crew spend their downtime.
In the exclusive interview below, Cameron talks about how the film pushes the boundaries of 3D further than ever, including the development of new equipment to create the atmosphere, and how it creates an intimate experience on even the largest of screens. He also reflects on how he and Eilish had a strong and clear vision for the film and what he learnt from working with one of the world’s biggest music stars.
