It had previously been rumoured that John Cena was circling the next instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise, now that rumour has been laid to bed with Cena now confirmed to be joining the cast.

With Dwayne Johnson out of the picture for the 9th film in the series, Cena is expected to fill the Johnson shaped void. Further details of his character are being kept under wraps.

The franchises stalwart actor, Vin Diesel had already hinted at Cena’s involvement back in April quoting that he believes Paul Walker is sending him new cast members from beyond the grave before revealing Cena.

Before we get anywhere near the ninth episode of the action blockbuster, the spin-off ‘Hobbs and Shaw’ will be bringing the entertainment later on in the year. Cena’s former wrestling buddy, Dwayne Johnson heads up the film having to partner with rival and enemy Jason Statham to fight off Idris Elba’s villain.

The synopsis for ‘Hobbs and Shaw’ reads

“Ever since hulking lawman Hobbs (Johnson), a loyal agent of America’s Diplomatic Security Service, and lawless outcast Shaw (Statham), a former British military elite operative, first faced off in 2015’s Furious 7, the duo have swapped smack talk and body blows as they’ve tried to take each other down.

“But when cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton (Idris Elba) gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever — and bests a brilliant and fearless rogue MI6 agent (The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby), who just happens to be Shaw’s sister — these two sworn enemies will have to partner up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than themselves.”

Cena’s latest roles were ‘Blockers’, where he played an overprotective Father and the ‘Transformers’ spin-off, ‘Bumblebee’. Cena’s upcoming roles include voicing a character in the Robert Downey Jr. vehicle ‘The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle’. He is currently also in talks to join James Gunn’s ‘Suicide Squad’.
