To celebrate the long-awaited UK release of Marcel The Shell With Shoes On, we had the pleasure of chatting with the star and co-writer of the delightful, uplifting film that has already set the world alight.

Marcel (voiced by Jenny Slate) is an adorable one-inch-tall shell who ekes out a colorful existence with his grandmother Connie (voiced by Isabella Rossellini) and their pet lint, Alan. Once part of a sprawling community of shells, they now live alone as the sole survivors of a mysterious tragedy. But when a documentary filmmaker discovers them amongst the clutter of his Airbnb, the short film he posts online brings Marcel millions of passionate fans, as well as unprecedented dangers and new hope at finding his long-lost family.

Chatting to Slate, we discuss the origins of the original shorts and the long gestation of the full-length version, where the inspiration for Marcel and his world came from, the art of voice acting, awards nominations, and the glowing reviews, as well as the glory of Everything Everywhere All At Once, which she co-starred in 2022. And much much more.
