Jack-Ryan:-Shadow-Recruit-PosterMake no mistake: This first trailer for Kenneth Branagh’s Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit has all the promise of rebooting the franchise for Paramount, just over a decade since Tom Clancy’s iconic character was last seen on the big screen.

The studio launched the first teaser poster for the action-thriller this week, and they’ve followed it up brilliantly with a stellar first trailer.

In a story taking place prior to the original Jack Ryan stories, Ryan is a young stock broker working for a billionaire in Moscow before joining the CIA. When the billionaire he is advising frames him for a terrorist plot and kidnaps his wife, Ryan must race against time to clear his name, stop the plot, and save his wife.

Chris Pine is front and centre this time around as the titular Jack Ryan, and he’s joined by a great cast, led by Kevin Costner, Kenneth Branagh, and Keira Knightley.

Branagh, whose impressive work helming Thor is nodded to in the trailer below, directs from a script written by Adam Cozad and David Koepp (Spider-Man), with Cozad making his feature debut with the blockbuster.

The late Tom Clancy had an undeniably brilliant track record, launching all kinds of franchises across various platforms. And I have a very good feeling that Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit will do what has yet to be done – see one actor play the character across (at least) three movies. It’s very, very early days yet, but I would be very surprised if Shadow Recruit isn’t the first film in a new trilogy.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit will be released on Christmas Day in the US, with its UK release date falling a day later on 26th December. Here’s the first trailer to whet your appetite. Enjoy.
