Matt Smith is the latest addition to the cast of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, the big screen adaptation of the popular Seth Grahame-Smith novel which has been in development for a number of years now.

Burr Steers is directing, and his previous credits include 17 Again and Charlie St. Cloud. Smith (who recently finished shooting Terminator: Genysis as he continues to distance himself from the Doctor Who role which made him famous) is set to play Mr Collins, a suitor to the movie’s heroine Liz Bennett (Lily James).

Pride and Prejudice and Zombie has come close to being made a few times, but a number of director and cast changes meant that it kept stalling and appeared as if it was never going to be made until recently.

It doesn’t currently have a release date, but Pride and Prejudice and Zombies does have a cast which so far also includes Lily James, Sam Riley, Jack Huston, Bella Heathcote and Douglas Booth. Production begins this month and the screenplay was written by David O. Russell and Steers.

As you may have already guessed, the movie puts a unique horror/comedy twist on the classic Jane Austen novel as it mixes the characters from that story with a legion of bloodthirsty undead.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies revolves around Liz Bennett (James), who is pressured by her family to marry into a wealthy upper-class home but chafes at the stiff social mores of Victorian England. Instead, she feels that she should help defend the countryside against the onslaught of a horrifying zombie plague.

It’s a unique sounding project and one which could find a great deal of success if they manage to pull it off.
