While Marvel may currently be firmly in charge of cinemas with successful releases like Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy, DC Comics are setting their sights on the small screen with a number of projects in development, including Supergirl and the recently announced (Teen) Titans series.
With the former Robin – now known as Nightwing – apparently in charge of this young team of superheroes, it’s a show which has massive potential and which will undoubtedly keep comic book fans happy as a number of characters we’re unlikely ever to see in their own movies get the chance to shine in live-action.
Here, you’ll find everything you need to know about the Teen Titans as well as our theories about how this series will potentially git into the DC Cinematic Universe and alongside the likes of Arrow and The Flash.
10. Who Are The Teen Titans?
Right, let’s start with the basics! The Teen Titans were originally introduced in 1964 as a “junior Justice League” made up of the sidekicks of heroes like Batman, The Flash and Aquaman. They went through many iterations over the years and the team – of teenagers obviously – would really take off in a series by Marv Wolfman and artist George Pérez in the 1980s.
A number of new characters were then added to the roster, and the dynamic between these heroes are what makes them so popular with comic book fans. Nightwing is deserving of his own series (and could easily carry his own movie), and making him the leader here seems like a wise choice, especially if they focus on his experience of fighting alongside Batman as he attempts to head up a team of inexperienced young heroes.
There are decades worth of material to mine for this series and dozens of characters to choose from. Needless to say, this is a TV series you should be excited about.
