Ryan Gosling’s Lost River was one of the few high-profile films to get an unexpectedly cold reception from the critics at Cannes.

Gosling was coming off the back of stellar performances in Drive, Crazy, Stupid, Love., and The Place Beyond the Pines when he was gearing up to shoot his debut. And with its release finally on the horizon, the first trailer has been released.

Set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city, BILLY, a single mother of two, is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while BONES, her eighteen-year-old son, discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Both Billy and Bones must dive deep into the mystery, if their family is to survive.

Gosling reunites with his Drive co-star Christina Hendricks, who takes the lead alongside Iain De Caestecker, Saoirse Ronan, Matt Smith, Eva Mendes, and Ben Mendelsohn, with Gosling directing from his own script.

Lost River is set to be released in the UK on 24th April. Warner Bros. is expected to give it a limited release in US cinemas sometime in April, releasing it digitally on the same day.
