August Wilson’s 1983 play took home the 1987 Tony for Best Play as well as winning the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in the same year. It’s tough themes of a broken nation and the false promise of the American Dream has given actors a fecund foundation on which to build great performances over the yars.

Now Denzel Washington and Viola Davis are bringing the play to the big screen, with Washington directing. Set in the 1950s Washington and Davis play the heads of a struggling household; the first trailer gives an intimate look into the themes of the pull of the past while the family struggle to look to the future. Acting Oscar noms seem a sure thing.
