It’s taken them long enough, and the road to cast this iconic comic book hero has been a long one, with numerous potentials joining, then falling by the wayside, but it has just been announced that Chris Evans has accepted the offer to play Captain America.

This is good news for Joe Johnston and Marvel as Evans was a seemingly popular choice for Steve Rogers, and now at least the speculation can stop and we can look forward to this one going before the camera in the summer.

Keen comic book fans will know that Evans is no stranger to the Marvel Universe, having played Johnny Storm in The Fantastic Four in two films and with rumours of a swifty reboot for that franchise the move to Captain America seems like a logical one for Evans.

THR had the news, but the details of the contract (I’m referring to the supposed nine picture deal and the relatively low salary) is not mentioned.

So, Marvel fans, you’ve debated this one endlessly and everyone had their own favourite potential – are you happy about this news?
