2. The Hurt Locker
While most of the movies on this list feature a lot in the way of action, The Hurt Locker was a movie which delivered both on that front and still found plenty of room for some solid dramatic and character moments.
Delving into the impact that the Iraq had on those on the front lines, the movie succeeded in exploring those at the heart of the conflict. Focusing on a bomb disposal team (something many perhaps weren’t all that familiar with before the release of the Oscar winning movie) meant that The Hurt Locker relied far more on the tension surrounding that rather than massive action scenes it was easy to get lost in, and was all the better for it.
Both Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackie would also give breakout performances here too.
