6. Restrepo
While there can be no doubting the fact that fictionalised accounts of war can have a powerful impact on us, a firsthand account of what really happened is in many ways far more interesting and harrowing.
That’s where the documentary Restrepo comes in as we spend a year in the life of the 2nd Platoon of Battle Company in Afghanistan. Offering an unparalleled look at the War in Afghanistan, the emotional and exhilarating movie gives us a REAL look at both the realities of war and the camaraderie of men in combat who go out each day not knowing whether they will make it to the next.
That was something which would tragically happen to Tim Hetherington, one of Restrepo’s filmmakers, who was killed while covering the Libyan Civil War.
