We’ll first meet Jason Momoa’s Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice this March, but Warner Bros. are now closing in on their leading lady for the King of Atlantis’ first solo outing. Amber Heard is reportedly in talks to join the DC Extended Universe as Mera, and as you can see from the image at the top of this article, she definitely looks the part!

However, the character is first set to make an appearance in Justice League, the Zack Snyder helmed 2017 movie which will bring all of these iconic superheroes together.

Mera is the love interest of Aquaman and eventual queen of Atlantis. She first appeared in 1963, and the character’s powers include the ability to control and even solidify water.

James Wan is set to direct Aquaman, and the movie – which is set to be released on July 27th, 2018 – has a very unique development process as Warner Bros. has put it on a dual track. That means there are two separate scripts (one by The Conjuring 2’s David Leslie Johnson and another by 300’s Kurt Johnstad) which are being worked on at the same time.

It will be interesting to see whether or not that works, but Aquaman is going to be a very unique comic book movie given its underwater setting, so here’s hoping they get it right!

Heard’s acting credits include Magic Mike XXL, Drive Angry, 3 Days to Kill, and many more.
