Killing Them Softly sees Brad Pitt returning to work with writer-director Andrew Dominik once more after the Oscar-nominated The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

The film has long been one of my most anticipated films of the year, and debuted at Cannes back in May to very positive reviews. We’ve seen a handful of things from the film already, and have now got a new batch of images to share whilst we eagerly await the first trailer.

“When their poker game is knocked off by petty thieves, the Mob calls in their best enforcer, Jackie Cogan, to make things right. Under the eye of a mysterious driver, Jackie must track down and punish those responsible for the heist. His assignment is complicated by those he comes up against along the way – an aging, drunken hit man, some bumbling local gangsters, and the ladies’ man who ran the ill-fated game.”

Starring alongside Pitt in the lead is the rising star Scoot McNairy*, James Gandolfini, Ray Liotta, Ben Mendelsohn, Richard Jenkins, Sam Shepard, and Slaine.

Previously titled Cogan’s Trade, Dominik penned the script himself, adapting the original novel by George V. Higgins, one of the most popular crime novelists in the US.

Killing Them Softly will be released in the US on 19th October, after The Weinstein Company switched its release somewhat with Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master. As things stand, we’re still hopefully getting it on 21st September in the UK, but that could potentially be shifted back in the coming weeks. For now, enjoy these great new images, and as usual, you can click to enlarge.

*If you haven’t seen Scoot McNairy in Gareth Edwards’ Monsters, I can’t recommend enough how much you should buy it as soon as humanly possible. And be sure to watch out for him in Ben Affleck’s upcoming Argo.
