4. Another Cliffhanger
Cliffhangers can be infuriating, but with only a year between movies, it’s something which has worked well for The Hobbit. After Smaug escapes from the dwarves who are attempting to kill him, he starts flying towards Lake Town with a plan to wipe it and everyone there out in a fiery storm.
Watching this scene, you were without a doubt on the edge of your seat, and ending the movie just as things were about to reach a head was a bold move. It was a powerful and exciting final act regardless, and the addition of a cliffhanger means The Battle of the Five Armies will kick things off in style as it deals with Smaug’s attack on Lake Town.
It’s also left us counting down the days to the threequel ever since the screen went black of course.
