6. Bilbo Saves Thorin
WE all know how brave Bilbo Baggins is, and it’s that which made it all the more difficult to endure Thorin constantly putting him down in An Unexpected Journey. The fact that Bilbo isn’t a traditional hero makes his acts of bravery all the more rousing, and this particular moment was no exception as he leaps into action and saves Thorin from certain doom (at the hands of a monstrous Orc two or three times his size no less), inspiring the rest of the dwarves to fight off their enemy.
All of this led to a wonderful scene which saw Thorin finally accept Bilbo into their party as he realises that there is much more to the Hobbit than he thought. A friendship was forged in this scene, and it made for a great place to bring the movie to a close.
