With so many superheroes either already on the big screen or on the way, Hollywood is now deciding to turn their attention to the supervillains. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will take on a very high profile role in Shazam as Black Adam, while Sony Pictures are working on a Spider-Man spin-off starring the Sinister Six.

Fox are also looking at the darker side of the X-Men Universe with Deadpool and X-Force movies in the works and there was a lot of talk about James Gunn at some point adapting Thunderbolts recently.

On the DC Comics front, their first movie after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016 will be Suicide Squad. Focusing on a team of villains forced to work for the government in exchange for reduced prison sentences, it’s a unique approach to a “superhero movie” and is already shaping up to be very exciting.

Here, we’ll guide you though who the Suicide Squad and some of the core members are, as well as detailing recently leaked plot and casting details. This feature will make you an expert on the team before the movie!

10. Who Are The Suicide Squad?

Suicide Squad

This is probably a good place to start, eh? Originally a World War II era team, the Squad’s mission has never really changed. They’ve always been a government sponsored force carrying out missions which allow the people controlling them plausible deniability if they’re caught or killed.

A number of villains (and even the odd hero) have been part of the team over the years, but they’ve changed a lot since those early days. Now, the group is composed mostly of incarcerated super-villains who perform black ops missions with a VERY slim low chance of survival in exchange for the possibility of a shortened sentence.

Amanda Waller, the head of shady government agency A.R.G.U.S., ruthlessly leads the Suicide Squad and doesn’t hesitate to hit the kill switch on the villains (who have all been implanted with bombs) if they disobey her orders.
