Though sharing a nice chemistry on camera during our interview – of course Will Tilston and Alex Lawther didn’t actually share any scenes together in Goodbye Christopher Robin, for the two young actors were both playing the same role, just at different stages in his life.

They both embodied the eponymous protagonist, the son of A.A. Milne and star of the Winnie the Pooh stories, who unwittingly became a child sensation and global celebrity. We asked both actors about their research, as well as their own personal relationship with the stories of Pooh, and co.

We also discussed what it was like collaborating so closely with Hollywood superstars Margot Robbie and Domhnall Gleeson, and whether director Simon Curtis let them keep any of the toys…

Synopsis

After leaving London for the English countryside, writer A.A. Milne starts to spin fanciful yarns about his son’s growing collection of stuffed animals. These stories form the basis for “Winnie-the-Pooh” and “The House at Pooh Corner,” published respectively in 1926 and 1928. Milne and his family soon become swept up in the instant success of the books, while the enchanting tales bring hope and comfort to the rest of postwar England.

Goodbye Christopher Robin is released on September 29th. You can read our review of the film here.
