Ware is perhaps best known for his 2000 graphic novel, Jimmy Corrigan, the Smartest Kid on Earth, which amongst winning many literary prizes, received The Guardian First Book Award in 2001 – the first time a graphic novel has won a major UK book award.
It’s not the first time a graphic novelist has produced artwork for a film (Daniel Clowes was behind the poster for Todd Solondz’s controversial 1998 feature Happiness) and Ware himself was also responsible for the more traditional-looking poster art for the 2007 film The Savages. The abstract approach and sometimes fractured narrative displayed in Ware’s own work would appear to be in perfect sync here with the Thai filmmaker’s esoteric vision.
On the strength of this new design in particular, here’s hoping Ware gets the opportunity to turn his immense talents to more big-screen projects in the future.
