Disney+ has released the official trailer for FX’s ‘The Shards,’ a provocative new drama series from executive producer Ryan Murphy, based on Bret Easton Ellis’ acclaimed bestselling novel.
Set in the glamorous yet dangerous world of 1980s Los Angeles, ‘The Shards’ blends psychological suspense, coming-of-age drama and murder mystery into a gripping story where privilege and paranoia collide.
The highly anticipated series will premiere with its first two episodes exclusively on Disney+ in the UK on Thursday, August 6.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of 1980s Los Angeles, The Shards follows a close-knit group of privileged high school seniors attending an exclusive prep school. As they grapple with identity, sexuality, jealousy and obsession, their seemingly perfect lives begin to fracture under the weight of secrets and escalating danger.
At the centre of the story is Bret (Igby Rigney), an aspiring writer with a sharp eye for the world around him. His sense of reality begins to unravel when enigmatic transfer student Robert Mallory (Homer Gere) arrives just before senior year.
Robert’s appearance coincides with the terrifying rise of The Trawler, a serial killer targeting teenagers across Los Angeles, leaving Bret increasingly convinced that something far more sinister lies beneath the polished surface of his privileged world.
Joining Rigney and Gere is an ensemble cast that includes Kaia Gerber as Susan Reynolds, Hayes Warner as Debbie Schaffer and Graham Campbell as Thom Wright, Bret’s glamorous and tightly connected social circle whose lives revolve around wealth, parties and excess.
The adults in their lives bring an even darker edge to the story, with Wes Bentley portraying Terry Schaffer, Evan Rachel Wood as Liz Schaffer and Jordan Roth as Steven Reinhardt.
