Alan Ritchson looks set to headline another high-octane action project, with the ‘Reacher’ and ‘War Machine’ star in negotiations to lead Netflix’s upcoming thriller ‘Maelstrom.’
The film will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, whose recent Netflix hit ‘Carry-On’ became one of the streaming giant’s biggest original film successes.
‘Maelstrom’ follows a Federal Marshal tasked with protecting the fiancée of an arms dealer after she seeks witness protection. What begins as a routine security detail quickly spirals into chaos when a powerful hurricane cuts off all communication and prevents reinforcements from reaching them.

Trapped together over the course of a single night, the pair must survive relentless attacks from heavily armed mercenaries sent by the vengeful arms dealer, while also battling the increasingly violent forces of nature surrounding them. With rising floodwaters, destructive winds and no escape in sight, survival depends on staying one step ahead of both human and natural threats.
The screenplay has been refreshed by ‘How to Rob a Bank’ writer Mark Bianculli, who has modernised the script and its characters from an original draft by the late Gregory Fitzpatrick.
‘Maelstrom’ will also mark the first major feature project to emerge from producer Peter Robinov’s overall deal with Netflix. Robinov will produce alongside Tabitha Shick and Talking Pictures.
