The-Place-Beyond-the-Pines-Teaser-PosterThe Place Beyond the Pines was by far one of my favourite films I saw last year, lucky enough to be at its world premiere at TIFF back in September.

Derek Cianfrance’s follow-up to the Oscar-nominated Blue Valentine sees the writer-director reteaming with Ryan Gosling, with the early reviews almost universally (and deservedly) praising of it – you can read our review here.

The first clips debuted shortly after the film’s Toronto premiere, and that long-awaited first trailer finally landed just in time for Christmas. And with its April release now very much on the horizon, we’ve got a new teaser poster to share.

“Luke (Gosling) is a professional motorcycle rider who turns to bank robberies to support his newborn son, but when he crosses paths with a rookie police officer (Cooper) their violent confrontation spirals into a tense generational fued. THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES is a rich dramatic thriller that traces the intersecting lives of fathers and sons, cops and robbers, heroes and villain.”

Gosling, Bradley Cooper, and Dane DeHaan all give fantastic leading performances, with fine support coming in the form of Ben Mendelsohn, Rose Byrne, Eva Mendes, Ray Liotta, Bruce Greenwood, Mahersala Ali, and Emory Cohen, with Mendelsohn’s performance particularly of note here.

Cianfrance is once more directing from his own script, with past collaborators Jamie Patricof, Alex Orlovsky, and Lynette Howell (Blue Valentine) producing alongside Sidney Kimmel (Moneyball, Lars and the Real Girl).

The Place Beyond the Pines will be given a limited US release on 29th March, with its UK release date set for 12th April. I cannot wait. I’ll be first in line to see this one again when it hits. It’s nothing short of immense. For now, here’s the new teaser poster, which you can click through to enlarge.

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.
