Academy Award-winning filmmaker Bong Joon Ho has assembled a major ensemble for his first animated feature, ‘Ally.’
The voice cast for the upcoming film includes Ayo Edebiri, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Finn Wolfhard, Alex Jayne Go, Rachel House and Werner Herzog.
Directed by Bong, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jason Yu, the animated feature has been in development since 2019. The story centres on Ally, a curious and lovable piglet squid living deep within the uncharted waters of the South Pacific Ocean. Dreaming of one day seeing the sun and becoming the star of a wildlife documentary, Ally’s quiet underwater existence is upended after a mysterious aircraft crashes into the ocean, placing her world in jeopardy.

Joined by a group of loyal yet unlikely companions, Ally embarks on an epic adventure that ultimately leads her toward the surface world.
The project marks Bong’s first venture into animation and continues the filmmaker’s genre-bending storytelling following acclaimed films including ‘Parasite,’ ‘Snowpiercer’ and ‘Mickey 17.’
Producer Seo Woo-sik is overseeing the feature, which is expected to be completed in the first half of 2027 ahead of a planned theatrical release later that year.
