Filmmaker Nia DaCosta has signed on to direct the first two episodes of Prime Video’s upcoming series adaptation of ‘Sex Criminals.’ DaCosta will also executive produce the project.
Based on the acclaimed comic book series by Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky, originally published by Image Comics, “Sex Criminals” follows Suze, played by Imogen Poots, a woman with an unusual ability: whenever she has sex, time freezes around her. Her life changes when she meets Jon, played by John Reynolds, who discovers he possesses the same power. Naturally, the pair decide to use their shared gift to rob banks.
The series was created by Emily V. Gordon, Kumail Nanjiani and Tze Chun, who also serve as showrunners. Executive producers include Gordon, Nanjiani, Chun, Dani Melia for Winter Coat Films, Dani Gorin for LuckyChap, as well as Fraction and Zdarsky. LuckyChap’s Louie Hayes serves as producer.

The eight-episode series is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios for Prime Video.
DaCosta most recently directed ‘28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ and previously helmed ‘The Marvels,’ ‘Candyman’ and ‘Little Woods.’ She also wrote and directed ‘Hedda.’ On the television side, DaCosta has directed episodes of ‘Top Boy’ and ‘Ms. Marvel.’
