Vanessa-Hudgens-in-The-Frozen-GroundSo often cast in the role of the good guy, it’s always nice to see John Cusack take a turn on the dark side, and The Frozen Ground will give us an opportunity to do that, playing a serial killer in the thriller.

Based on real events, the film sees Cusack starring opposite Nicolas Cage and Vanessa Hudgens, and that leading trio has me more than intrigued. We saw the first trailer surface last summer, with its release originally slated for last autumn.

And with its new release date fast approaching this summer, Lionsgate have released a new trailer over on Yahoo Movies, introduced by Hudgens herself.

Alaskan State Trooper Jack Halcombe sets out to end the murderous rampage of Robert Hansen, a serial killer who has gone unnoticed for 13 years. As the bodies of street girls start to pile up in Anchorage, fear strikes a chord with the public. Risking his life, Halcombe goes on a personal manhunt to find the killer before the next body surfaces. When a seventeen year old escapee reveals key information about the case, Halcombe is finally on the trail of the killer. But will he catch him in time to save the next victim?

Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson, Dean Norris, Radha Mitchell, Jodi Lyn O’Keefe, and Katherine LaNasa complete the cast alongside Cage, Cusack, and Hudgens.

Scott Walker is making his feature debut as both writer and director here. The film is based on the real-life crimes of serial killer Robert Hansen, who was convicted of killing more than a dozen women, and is currently serving 461 years in an Alaskan prison.

The Frozen Ground is set to be released on 19th July here in the UK, with its US theatrical and VOD release date following on August 23rd.
