A new outing in The Conjuring universe is starting to take shape in the form of The Conjuring 3 after screenwriter, David Leslie Johnson, who wrote The Conjuring sequel, signed on the dotted line of this ever expanding horror franchise.

The plotline for the third offering is being kept a tight secret but looks again to the real-life casebook of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren for a truly horrifying outcome. The franchise creator, James Wan, may just take a backseat on this one but being his baby will be involved in one capacity or another with a producer role looking more likely.

Johnson and Wan have a long-standing working relationship together, not only has Johnson worked in the script for The Conjuring 2 but he teamed up with Wan on the script for the upcoming Aquaman which stars Jason Mamoa and is still dipping in and out of production where re-writes are needed.

This may be the third in the Conjuring series but the announcement of this sequel actually makes it the seventh film to come out of the universe which includes the spin-off offerings of Annabelle, the upcoming Annabelle: Creation and the recently announced The Nun and The Crooked Man adding to Wan’s horror empire.

The first outing in the series broke all records, and still holds the title, for the biggest opening weekend with $41.8 million, it has gone on to globally make a staggering $318,000 million, with The Conjuring 2 set at number two with a globally box office of $311,270 million with Annabelle trailing in at $256,873 million, with Annabelle: Creation being set to open in August it’s looking likely that $100 million mark from all in the franchise will be beaten.
