Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video have released the official trailer for ‘The Greatest,’ the first authorised scripted series chronicling the extraordinary life of boxing legend Muhammad Ali. Starring newcomer Jaalen Best, the upcoming series will explore the personal, professional and political battles that shaped one of the most influential athletes of all time.
The official trailer follows a young Cassius Clay as he begins his journey from Louisville, Kentucky, to becoming the man the world would come to know as Muhammad Ali. Set against the backdrop of a changing America, ‘The Greatest’ charts his rise through the boxing world while examining the convictions, challenges and defining moments that shaped his identity both inside and outside the ring.
More than a story about sporting greatness, the series explores a once-in-a-generation talent determined to control his own destiny. From the fights that established him as a champion to the beliefs that cemented his legacy as a cultural icon, ‘The Greatest’ offers a portrait of the man behind the legend.
Jaalen Best stars as Cassius Clay, later known as Muhammad Ali, leading a cast that includes Omari Hardwick as Cassius Clay Sr., Dana Gourrier as Odessa “Bird” Clay, Kai Parham as Rudy Clay, Amin Joseph as Sonny Liston, Giovanni Ribisi as Angelo Dundee and Michael Ealy as Malcolm X.
The series carries the involvement of Ali’s family, with his wife, Lonnie Ali, serving as an executive producer. Created and executive produced by Ben Watkins, who also serves as showrunner, ‘The Greatest’ is the first authorised scripted series to chronicle Ali’s life.
The production brings together Watkins’ Blue Monday Productions, known for ‘Cross,’ and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, alongside Authentic Studios, a division of Authentic Brands Group, Roc Nation, Shawn Carter, Polygram Entertainment, a Universal Music Group partner, and Grace: A Storytelling Company.
