Jamie-Foxx-in-The-Amazing-Spider-Man-2Production is well underway out in New York on The Amazing Spider-Man 2, with shooting coming up on its two-month mark.

Marc Webb is back at the helm, having done a fantastic job of rebooting the franchise last year. And he’s assembled another brilliant cast, with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone naturally returning as our leading duo, Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy.

There’ve been plenty of set photos doing the rounds in recent weeks, and now Marc Webb has tweeted the first official photo of Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon / Electro. And alongside that, Dane DeHaan has also given us our first look at himself as Harry Osborn.

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough.  Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep.  Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

Starring alongside Garfield, Stone, Foxx, and DeHaan will be Shailene Woodley, Paul Giamatti, Felicity Jones, Sally Field, Martin Sheen, Chris Cooper, Brian Haley, Colm Feore, and B.J. Novak.

Webb is directing from a script co-written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Star Trek, Transformers) and Jeff Pinkner (Fringe, Lost), based on a previous draft by James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man).

Sony have already set the film to be the second instalment in an upcoming trilogy. And I remain convinced that we could be looking at more than just three films, if the overarching storyline develops as I hope it might.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to be released in 3D on May 2nd, 2014. I can’t wait; this is going to be a lot of fun.
