To celebrate the release of the acclaimed new thriller/horror Strange Darling, which premieres as part of this year’s FrightFest in London, we caught up with the star and filmmakers to find out more.
A cat-and-mouse thriller described as a “dramatization of the last known months of a serial killer” and nothing is what it seems when a one/-night stand between two adults (Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner) spirals into a serial killer’s vicious murder spree.
Chatting first with star Willa Fitzgerald, we discuss the lure of the script, the topsy-turvy, unrelenting nature of the story and all its twists and turns, why it’s best experienced without know anything other than what has been released, her unique dynamic with Gallner and why this role was her most challenging but rewarding yet.
Next, writer/director JT Mollner and director of photography Giovanni Ribisi (of Ted and Avatar fame) about why they were so excited to tell this story, shooting on film and having it feel real rather than digital, the complexities and twists of the story, their unique collaboration and audience anticipation and reactions so far.
