3. JFK
When controversial director Oliver Stone set out to make a film surrounding the conspiracy to murder President John F. Kennedy, he cast Gary Oldman in one of the most important roles.
Oldman played the man who pulled the trigger that killed Kennedy, Lee Harvey Oswald. Some can argue the merits and veracity of Stone’s film, but one thing they can’t argue is the performance of Gary Oldman. Oswald is not an easy character to play, but Oldman was clearly up for the challenge. Many wondered how somebody would or could play a man as mysterious as the infamous crime he created, and Oldman responded with a multi-faceted composite of a killer with a motive only he himself could truly comprehend.
It’s a haunting performance that helped to catapult Oldman into the public consciousness, and remains a benchmark in his impressive and varied filmography.
