There’s no denying that the Harry Potter franchise is one of the most successful film series of all time, with a who’s who of British talent rounding out the cast.  My favorite cast member though was Gary Oldman as Harry’s uncle and wizard extraordinaire, Sirius Black.

Oldman first appeared in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on the wild wanted posters featuring Oldman looking particularly crazy, and it’s easy to see why they would cast an actor of such magnitude.  Sirius is one of the more interesting characters in the Potterverse, and so it only makes sense to hire an actor just as complex.  Oldman employed his trademark intensity to the character, and it worked marvelously.  He becomes a rather endearing character and a very central figure in the story of the famous boy wizard.
