Rather than focusing on new horror franchises, Hollywood continues to look to those which succeeded in the past, so Halloween is getting a reboot. Well, not a reboot exactly. It’s apparently more of a “recalibration”.

Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan (who wrote four of the seven Saw movies; IV to VII) have been chosen by Dimension Films to write a new take on the classic series. It’s not exactly clear what it will involve at this stage though, with sources apparently stating: “It’s not a remake, not a reboot, and not a re-imagining.”

What a “recalibration” will involve remains to be seen, but you have to imagine that classic Halloween villain Michael Myers will be back. The property was rebooted back in 2007 by Rob Zombie and even received a sequel two years later. There were plans for a Halloween 3D, but we’ve heard nothing about that for ages.

No director is attached as of yet (it sounds like it’s still very early days), but longtime producers Malek Akkad and Matt Stein will be back. The former was heavily involved in the last reboot and the efforts from the ’90s.

Melton and Dunstan other credits include Piranha 3DD, so whether or not you were a fan of that and their Saw movies might be enough to tell you whether or not this Halloween “recalibration” will appeal.
