When Charlie Kaufman sat down to dream up a horror film he came up with the sublime nightmare of Synecdoche, New York and when Kevin Smith decided his follow up to Cop Out would carve his own mark on the horror tree with Red State, no-one expected a standard slasher flick.
Smith has debuted the first trailer for Red State and it’s an intriguing look at Smith’s take on the darkest depths of religious fundamentalism with a truly effective use of voiceover and fragments of the film rushing at you, giving only a hint of what’s in store.
It’s a great Christmas present for fans of Smith’s work and I can’t wait to see the film when it hits next year.
