He’s got Dinner for Schmucks coming out soon and Everything You’ve Got in post-production. Now comes news from Hollywood Reporter of the addition of further cast members to his upcoming comedy “My Idiot Brother”.

Jesse Peretz will direct this New York-based comedy which sees Rudd play an idealist crashing in turn at the homes of each of his sisters, played by Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel and Emily Mortimer.

The newly announced cast members are Hugh Dancy, who will play a pretentious painter friend of Deschanel, Kathryn Hahn who will play Rudd’s ex-girlfriend, Shirley Knight who will be Rudd’s over-bearing mother and Janet Montgomery, playing a British aristocrat being profiled by Banks’ character.

Rudd always manages to be likable, even when he is playing a slob (Role Models), so an idiot brother should be a breeze for him. Whether this will prove to be formulaic stuff, or something a little more special, only time will tell.

Dave has been writing for HeyUGuys since mid-2010 and has found them to be the most intelligent, friendly, erudite and insightful bunch of film fans you could hope to work with. He's gone from ham-fisted attempts at writing the news to interviewing Lawrence Bender, Renny Harlin and Julian Glover, to writing articles about things he loves that people have actually read. He has fairly broad tastes as far as films are concerned, though given the choice he's likely to go for Con Air over Battleship Potemkin most days. He's pretty sure that 2001: A Space Odyssey is the most overrated mess in cinematic history.
