Pacific-Rim-Quad-PosterGuillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim is little more than a week from hitting cinemas, and all signs are pointing to the film being one of the year’s most successful at the box office.

Warner Bros. have done a fantastic job of promoting the movie, with epic sequences teased, but not overdone, from day one. And after catching an awesome final trailer for the blockbuster this week, we’ve now got a great new featurette to share, introduced by Charlie Day himself, giving a little shout out to us and our readers here at HeyUGuys.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes–a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)–who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, and Idris Elba lead the brilliant cast alongside Day, with Rob Kazinsky, Max Martini, and Ron Perlman completing the ensemble nicely.

Del Toro is directing from a script he co-wrote with Travis Beacham, making his return to the director’s chair for the first time since Hellboy II back in 2008.

Along with this great new featurette, Warner Bros. have also recently launched a content vault for the film, which you can connect to via the link below, taking you to a site dedicated to all things Pacific Rim.

Pacific Rim will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D next Friday, July 12th, and is very much one of our must-see movies of the month. Tickets are already on sale, so be sure to book early if you want to be amongst the first to see the movie next weekend.

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.
