This new trailer for Paco Plaza’s continuation of the Rec story is as face chewing as we’ve come to expect following the two previous trailers and for the first time I’m a little wary of what this new chapter means for the series.

While Jaume Balagueró, the other director of the Rec films, is taking a look back at the end of the world following the outbreak with the unambiguously titled Rec 4: Apocalypse, Rec 3: Genesis tells the story of its beginnings and is using a wedding party as the setting. All of the trailers so far have begun with a wedding video used as the narrative device and then, for the first time in the series, we see Plaza drop this and film is  told in a conventional way.

There’s a lot to be said for the Rec films and the gimmick of the real-time, first person device is used very well however in breaking with this tradition there is a danger, and this is glimpsed here, that it will become nothing more than just another zombie film.
