Co-directors Paco Plaza and Jaume Balagueró have been scaring cinema audiences with their [REC] films since 2007. Plaza returns behind the camera for [REC] 3: Genesis in a few months’ time, ahead of Balagueró’s offering of [REC] 4: Apocalypse, expected later this year or early next year.

We got a fantastic first teaser trailer last year, followed by an excellent (anti-)Valentine’s Day trailer last month, and now we have a brilliant and bloody new trailer to share with you, which sees the lovely, peaceful wedding day veer somewhat off the track.

“The original [REC] crew are back, ready to submit their ensemble cast to another fight for survival against the zombie infection. This time to the backdrop of an original soundtrack. The new chapter will see the film “open up” by using a more traditional cinematographic style. However, the film’s roots have not been forgotten, and viewers will still be immersed in the action watching certain events unfold through the eye of the video camera. The action in [REC] Genesis encompasses the events of the first two films and after the sense of claustrophobia previously experienced. The action now takes place miles away from the original location and partly in broad daylight, giving the film an entirely fresh yet disturbing new reality. The infection has left the building. In a clever twist that draws together the plots of the first two movies, this third part of the saga also works as a decoder to uncover information hidden in the first two films and leaves the door open for the final installment the future, [REC] Apocalypse.”

Co-written by Plaza and frequent collaborator Luis Berdejo, the film stars Leticia Dolera as Clara and Diego Martín as Koldo, the happy couple that don’t quite get the wedding they had planned.

[REC] 3: Genesis will be released in Spain at the end of this month on 30th March, and is due in UK cinemas on 11th May, so if you’re a fan of the first two films, you can be sure you’ll want to make a mental note of that date: 11th May. Prepare yourselves.
