Andrew Garfield dons the Spidey suit in this reboot, as you’re all well aware, with the lovely Emma Stone starring in the female lead, Gwen Stacy. She absolutely nails the role, and Apple have debuted a new featurette interviewing her about taking on the part.
“The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Ifans), his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.”
Director Marc Webb clearly had an incredible vision for the film, and it is has come out looking simply amazing with the finished product.
Starring alongside Garfield and Stone is a great cast, headed up by Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors / The Lizard, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Denis Leary, Irrfan Khan, and of course Stan Lee himself in his usual cameo (they’re always great, and this one doesn’t disappoint in the slightest).
James Vanderbilt, Alvin Sargent, and Steve Kloves penned the script, and Vanderbilt has already got the ball rolling on The Amazing Spider-Man 2, with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman hired for the re-write.
The Amazing Spider-Man will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on 3rd July in the UK and US, and there’s a good chance tickets are already on sale in your local cinema. This is definitely one you’ll want to see on the big screen, and I really can’t recommend it enough. For now, a little sit-down with Emma Stone and clips from the film to whet your appetites. Enjoy.
