Directed by Salles, the film is based on American author Jack Kerouac’s highly acclaimed novel of the same name that was published in 1957.
Largely autobiographical, the novel is based on the spontaneous road trips Kerouac took with his friends, including that of Neal Cassady, William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg, across mid-century America in the 1940s.
Often considered a defining work of the postwar Beat Generation, his story was inspired by jazz, poetry, and drug experiences.
Not using any real names within the film, Kerouac is named Sal Paradise and played by Sam Riley, Cassady is named Dean Moriarty and played by Garrett Hedlund, and Sturridge, who can be seen in the poster below, plays Ginsberg who is named in the film as Carlo Marx.
Best known for his role in 1960s-set comedy The Boat That Rocked, the new poster doesn’t show Sturridge looking his best but he is certainly a great actor to fit the film’s era.
Also starring Kristen Stewart, Kirsten Dunst, Viggo Mortensen, Amy Adams, and Steve Buscemi, you can see the film’s trailer here, and the new character poster below courtesy of the film’s official Facebook page.
