From Chris Stokes and Marques Houston, director/writer and star of You Got Served, comes a new dance film that sees the dance-contest film genre that have surged in recent years moving down the ages to star a host of young kids.

A new trailer for Battlefield America has landed, courtesy of Yahoo Movies, and whilst it’s not my personal cup of tea, I’m sure there are plenty of fans of Stokes’ earlier film who’ll want to see what he’s bringing to the big screen next.

“The Bad Boys are a youth hip-hop dance crew struggling to compete in the battle dance culture in Long Beach, California. Sean Lewis, a young, charismatic, successful businessman finds himself in the mix with the disheveled misfits, who have virtually no dance talent. Realizing his dilemma, Sean brings aboard a professional dance instructor to ease his responsibilities to these kids. Meanwhile, he finds himself falling for Sara, who runs the community center where the kids hangout and practice their moves. With Sean motivating them, The Bad Boys find the confidence to be contenders…”

Stokes is behind the camera for this, directing from a script he co-wrote with Houston, who also stars as the kids’ mentor, with Christopher Jones (who also starred in You Got Served) as his counterpart for one of the opposing groups.

Battlefield America is due to drop in the US on 1st June (which sees it up against Snow White and the Huntsman), and as yet doesn’t have a UK release date. I’d imagine that if you’re looking forward to this in the UK, you may have to wait for a DVD/Blu-Ray release, but I’m sure we’ll hear more as its US release date gets closer.
