It has been confirmed today that Daredevil will return for a second season on Netflix. The first thirteen episodes have been met with an overwhelmingly positive response from fans and critics alike, leaving absolutely everyone baffled by the possibility of the show not returning until after The Defenders.

That would have meant Daredevil wouldn’t have returned until possibly 2017 or 2018, an unacceptable prospect after the stellar first season. Instead, season two will air on the online streaming service in 2016.

However, the only downside to this news is the fact that showrunner Steven S. DeKnight won’t be returning in that capacity and is stepping down. Taking his place will be writers Doug Petrie (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Marco Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy), both of whom worked closely with DeKnight and Drew Goddard.

There’s no specific air date as of yet, but based on the likes of House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, expect to see it back around this time next year. Other Marvel properties coming to Netflix include A.K.A. Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. They will then all team-up for an event series called The Defenders.
