Need-for-Speed-UK-Quad-Posters-sliceLittle more than a month separates us from Aaron Paul’s return, and those missing their dose of seeing Jesse Pinkman on the small screen should take comfort in the fact that what we’ve seen of Paul in DreamWorks’ upcoming Need for Speed has looked awesome.

The first trailer launched back in September, sweeping aside any concerns you might have had about how good a Need for Speed adaptation would be. That was soon followed up by a new trailer towards the end of the year, and now the studio has launched the latest footage from the upcoming blockbuster at the Super Bowl to great effect.

An exciting return to the great car-culture films of the 1960s and ’70s, when authenticity brought a new level of intensity to the action, “Need for Speed” taps into what makes the American myth of the open road so enticing.

The story chronicles a near-impossible cross-country race against time—one that begins as a mission for revenge, but proves to be one of redemption. In a last attempt to save his struggling garage, blue-collar mechanic Tobey Marshall (Aaron Paul)—who with his team skillfully builds and races muscle cars on the side—reluctantly partners with wealthy, arrogant ex-NASCAR driver Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper). Just as a major sale to car broker Julia Bonet (Imogen Poots) looks like it will save the business, a disastrous, unsanctioned race results in Dino framing Tobey for manslaughter.

Two years later and fresh out of prison, Tobey is set on revenge with plans to take down Dino in the high-stakes De Leon race—the Super Bowl of underground racing. To get there in time, Tobey must run a high-octane, action-packed gauntlet, dodging cops coast-to-coast and dealing with fallout from a dangerous bounty Dino put on his car. With his loyal crew and the surprisingly resourceful Julia as allies, Tobey defies odds at every turn and proves that even in the flashy world of exotic supercars, the underdog can still finish first.

Dominic Cooper, Imogen Poots, and Scott Mescudi (a.k.a. Kid Cudi) complete the leading quartet, with Rami Malek, Michael Keaton, and Dakota Johnson starring alongside them.

Scott Waugh (Act of Valor) is in the director’s chair, with George Nolfi (The Adjustment Bureau) and John Gatins (Coach Carter, Flight) penning the script.

Need for Speed will be released in the UK on 12th March, two days ahead of its March 14th US release date. And one thing I hadn’t realised until now, but the recent UK quad poster (in full below) reveals that it will be released, at least on our shores, in 3D as well as 2D.
