Long before it reached the online streaming service, Netflix confirmed that season two of Narcos would wrap up the story of Pablo Escobar. It was inevitable after the first ten episodes covered the infamous drug lord’s rise to power and escape from prison as anyone even vaguely familiar with his history knew that there wasn’t a lot of story left to tell after that.

Season two delved into Escobar’s final months in great detail, providing a compelling and satisfying end to his story, but once that was over, fans of Narcos were left wondering what’s next for the series. With his tale at an end, would the show also just reach a conclusion?

Thankfully not as Netflix has confirmed today that Narcos will return for a third season in 2017. The final few minutes of season two left the door open for this to happen of course, but rave reviews and strong viewing numbers over the weekend has helped make it official!

As expected, the videos below make it clear that the new big bad in the show will be Cali Cartel and its top men, Helmer “Pacho” Herrera and Escobar’s former partner, Gilberto Rodriguez Orejuela. The latter received a fair bit of screentime during season two, and while Narcos won’t be quite the same without Pablo, it should still end up being a must-watch.

UPDATE: It has been confirmed that Netflix has renewed the show for a fourth season too.
